Ravens Dominate Red Zone in Blowout Win Over Detroit Lions

The Baltimore Ravens offense was humming in the 38-6 win over the Detroit Lions, as Todd Monken's unit was nearly perfect in the red zone.
In this story:

Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken wanted his unit to execute better in the red zone, and against the Detroit Lions in a 38-6 demolition at M&T Bank Stadium, they were nearly perfect.

After the red zone issues were plaguing Baltimore's offense over the last few weeks, against a stout Lions defense, Lamar Jackson and Co. tore them to shreds in a devastating performance.

On six red zone trips, the Ravens offense scored five touchdowns in what was a brutal display of what Baltimore is capable of in Monken's scheme.

In a first half that you had to see to believe, the Ravens walked up and down the field as Detroit was powerless to stop them.

The Ravens amassed 355 first-half yards on 37 plays, averaging 9.6 yards per play as Jackson (17 of 21 for 255 yards, two touchdowns) looked like the 2019 MVP at M&T Bank Stadium. The first four possessions resulted in four touchdowns.

That kind of efficiency would make Monken proud.

While the Ravens' offense gets all the plaudits, the defense kept Jared Goff and the offense to just 97 total yards in the first half and sacked him three times as the Ravens took a 28-0 lead into halftime.

Baltimore's second halves had been a concern in the last two weeks (outscored 27-6 by their opponents), so all eyes were on how the Ravens would continue their beatdown.

Well, the Ravens kept their foot on the gas. The defense forced a turnover on downs on the Lions' first possession of the third quarter, and Jackson and Co. then marched 94 yards in five plays, with tight end Mark Andrews catching an eight-yard touchdown.

The Ravens offense has been threatening to click for the last few weeks, and many wondered what it would look like when it does.

Well, against the Lions, it was incredible to watch as Detroit was handed a brutal reality check.

FS1's Nick Wright (Kansas City Chiefs fan) stated during the preseason that the Ravens are the one team that scares him. After witnessing Baltimore lay waste to a red-hot Lions team, we wonder what his thoughts are now.

Baltimore was thought to have the most explosive offense in football during the preseason, and while it took six weeks to click, Monken's unit looked unstoppable when it did.
