Ravens Tender Tyler Huntley, Lamar Jackson Emergency Replacement?
The Baltimore Ravens have placed the low restricted free agent tender on Tyler Huntley, giving them the right of first refusal shall other teams try to sign him, as first reported by The Athletic.
Meaning the Ravens will keep him on their roster and hope he will continue to serve as the backup quarterback to Lamar Jackson. That is if Jackson and the Ravens come to an agreement on a long-term extension.
As Jackson missed time due to injury last season, Huntley, also known as "Snoop," played in his place, throwing for 658 yards, two touchdowns, and three interceptions, with a 67 percent completion percentage, as he started in four of his six regular-season appearances, which even head him his first Pro Bowl appearance.
Huntley even started in the Wild Card loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, throwing for 226 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception in the loss that came down to the final seconds.
As the contract negotiations drag on with Jackson after the Ravens placed the non-exclusive franchise tag on the former Louisville product, Huntley could play an important role in the lead-up to next season.
As speculation persists about whether Jackson will hold out of the offseason workouts and potentially even training camp in hopes of forcing Baltimore to the negotiating table, Huntley would likely assume the majority of the reps with the starting offense. In doing so, the Ravens will have a well-prepared backup behind Jackson.
