Ravens Notebook: Instant Reactions From Baltimore Loss to Commanders

Check the sky for pigs, the Ravens have finally lost a preseason game.

The Baltimore Ravens were defeated by the Washington Commanders 29-28 on Monday night after a game-winning field goal from Washington kicker Joey Slye with 10 seconds left.  

Despite head coach John Harbaugh's best effort to keep Baltimore's preseason win streak alive, the Commanders were able to steal the win at the very last second. Read up on all you need to know about the streak-snapping loss.

Zay Flowers Is The Real Deal

Flowers only caught two passes in the game, but it was what he did with ball in his hands after the catch that caught eyes. He sliced and diced through the Washington defense, turning a five-yard pass into a 26-yard touchdown. The Ravens drafted Flowers with the No. 22 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. 

Flowers is part of a revitalized Baltimore receiving group that features Odell Beckham Jr. and Rashod Bateman.

Is Baltimore A Tight End Factory?

Everyone knows about the Ravens' star tight end Mark Andrews, who is regularly talked about in the conversation of second-best tight end in football. While Andrews has the starting job comfortably locked up, Baltimore is building up plenty of depth behind him. Isaiah Likely impressed when he saw time during his rookie season in 2022 and now, Travis Vokolek is making waves. 

The rookie tight end caught three passes for 28 yards and two impressive touchdowns. While it's unlikely that Vokolek sees time in the regular season, its clear that the Ravens have an eye for scouting tight ends. 

The Preseason Ravens Are Mortal

Baltimore had won 24-straight preseason games, dating all the way back to 2016. For a while, it looked like they would never lose a preseason game again. That was until Commanders quarterback Jake Fromm led a game-winning touchdown drive to snap the Ravens streak. 

It's fitting that Washington was the team to end the win streak, as they had been the team to contribute the most to the streak. The Commanders had lost five preseason games to Baltimore since 2016.
