Ravens 'Streak is Meaningless'? Robert Griffin III Reacts

“The Ravens’ NFL Record 24 STRAIGHT PRESEASON WINS IN A ROW isn’t meaningless,” RGIII writes on social media. ... and here's his reasoning.
In this story:

It is true that as observers of NFL preseason football - as much as we'd waited months for it - there is a tendency to dismiss the exhibition games as "meaningless.'' And yes, that even goes for when a franchise is on a notable roll in this exhibitions, as is the case with the Baltimore Ravens.

The Ravens, in defeating the Philadelphia Eagles 20-19 in the preseason opener, stretched their impressive summer streak on Saturday to 24th consecutive straight wins. That's tasting nothing but sweet summer victory in a way that extends all the way back to the 2015 preseason.

Yes, yes, we know it's not "meaningless'' to the guys fighting for jobs. But former Ravens QB Robert Griffin III is here to tell us that there is another level of "not meaningless'' to be observed.

“The Ravens’ NFL Record 24 STRAIGHT PRESEASON WINS IN A ROW isn’t meaningless,” RGIII wrote on social media.“It’s a testament to the depth on the roster and great coaching. This year they finally have the pieces in place around Lamar Jackson to bring a Super Bowl back to B-More.”

There are actually two entirely separate issues there in the take from the now ESPN analyst. Griffin, who spent the last three seasons of his NFL career as a member of the Ravens, obviously has insight in what winning, even in the preseason, means about the culture in Baltimore ... and what it can do to make the culture even better.

After all, Griffin, a Heisman Trophy winner and first-round NFL Draft pick (by Washinfgton), was involved in this Ravens streak, having played in Baltimore as Lamar Jackson's backup from 2018 through 2020.

But the second part of that statement is the most "not-meaningless'' of all. "This year they finally have the pieces in place around Lamar Jackson to bring a Super Bowl back to B-More''? Baltimore’s continued success in their two more games this preseason (August 21 at Washington and August 26 at Tampa Bay) are interesting. What happens after that, though, is what is truly meaningful.
