Lamar Jackson's Contract Extension Bring Ravens One Step Closer to Keeping His Promise

The Baltimore Ravens finally completed their contract negotiations with quarterback Lamar Jackson. With their franchise signal-caller on a new deal, he will now look to win a Super Bowl, as he promised on the day he was drafted.
In this story:

"Everything out of me. They are gonna get a Super Bowl out of me, believe that," Lamar Jackson said just moments after being drafted by the Baltimore Ravens at No. 32 overall in the 2018 NFL Draft.

It was one of the first things he said as a member of the Ravens, and despite having not delivered on that promise yet, it seems they are one step closer to that goal. Jackson signed his big five-year, $260 million contract extension on Thursday, concluding the long, drawn-out negotiations that even saw him request a trade at one point.

But Jackson isn't done being a Raven. "I got five more years to prove it. I've got to make it happen within the five years," Jackson said about his Draft Day promise. "I've got great guys around me and hopefully, we make it happen sooner than later."

Jackson's extension is just one of many moves made this offseason that the Ravens hope will see them make good on that promise. In the beginning, they re-signed inside linebacker RoQuan Smith to a market-setting extension. While also hiring a new offensive coordinator Todd Monken. Then in free agency, they signed two veteran wide receivers, Nelson Agholor and Odell Beckham Jr. But they weren't done giving Jackson weapons, as they spent their first-round pick on Boston College's Zay Flowers.

Jackson has already shown that he can produce, even with a limited supporting cast. Now it is his turn to prove what he can do when he has an improved cast of weapons around him on offense and a stout defense on the other side of the ball.
