Ravens Blame Game: Rashod Bateman Expresses Fury in Fiery Since-Deleted Tweet
Are frustrations boiling over inside the Baltimore Ravens franchise during the prolonged Lamar Jackson contract negotiations and the lead-up to the NFL Draft in full swing?
Wide receiver Rashod Bateman certainly took issues with a recent comment from general manager Eric DeCosta on Wednesday at the NFL Scouting Combine in response to a question about a fairly unsuccessful track record of drafting wide receivers.
"How bout you play to your player's strength and & stop pointing the finger at us and No. 8, ..." Bateman said. "Blame the one you let do this. ... we take heat 24/7 & keep us healthy ... care about US & see what happens. ... ain't no promises tho ... tired of y'all lyin and capn on players for no reason."
Bateman's frustrations were quickly scrubbed from his Twitter, and he later deleted the tweet. But it is the first showing of true feelings from a Ravens player publicly.
Bateman, the 2021 first-round pick, replied to comments from DeCosta on Wednesday.
"If I had an answer, that would probably mean I would have some better receivers," DeCosta said about struggles at drafting receivers. "We're going to keep swinging. There have been some guys that have been successful players for us that were draft picks.
"We've never really hit on that All-Pro type of guy, which is disappointing, but it's not for a lack of effort. ... It's one of those anomalies that I really can't explain other than to say that we're not going to stop trying."
Whether the Ravens re-sign Jackson probably won't keep them from trying to draft another wide receiver in April. But as Bateman pointed out, maybe the blame needs to be placed on the decision-makers in Baltimore and less on the players themselves.
