'Maybe Todd Monken Saw Something We Didn't!' Baltimore Ravens WR Rashod Bateman On Lack Of Deep Shots
The Baltimore Ravens' offense had their ups and downs in their 22-19 loss in overtime to the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday at M&T Bank Stadium.
Two fumbles lost, and an inability to push the ball down the field in sloppy conditions ultimately proved costly in Baltimore's first loss this season. Ravens (2-1) third-year receiver believes the offense could have taken more shots through the air, though he noted that offensive coordinator Todd Monken may have had his reasons for why they didn't take more risks in the passing game.
"Maybe Todd Monken saw something that we didn't see; that's why we're going to go back to the drawing board – to see what he did see – so he can explain it to us, and we can communicate with him what we saw," Bateman said after the game. "And it's nobody's fault. We'll just go back and fix it, watch the film, get better and just look forward to next week."
Bateman only had one catch for six yards and is currently nursing a hamstring injury.
Lamar Jackson completed 22 of 31 passes for 202 yards against Indianapolis (2-1). He also had 14 carries for 101 yards and two touchdowns.
With Baltimore's offense still finding their way under Monken, it's not surprising to hear that players may not be on the same page. It'll likely take weeks before the offense is firing on all cylinders.
The Ravens being ravaged with injuries to left tackle Ronnie Stanley, center Tyler Linderbaum, wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. and running back Justice Hill also didn't help against the Colts.
Once the Ravens get healthy on offense and everyone is on the same page with Monken, they'll have a chance to be one of the better units in the league.
Baltimore will have a chance to get back on track on Sunday when it faces the Cleveland Browns (2-1) at Cleveland Browns Stadium at 1 p.m. ET.
