Ravens CB Rock Ya-Sin Most 'Overvalued' Player?
The Baltimore Ravens already possess one of the league's best young cornerbacks in Marlon Humphrey.
And this offseason, the front office added Rock Ya-Sin, a player who appeared on the same trajectory following his rookie season. Ya-Sin, a second-round pick in 2019, racked up 62 tackles, five pass deflections and an interception in 15 games for the Indianapolis Colts.
However, neither of his next two seasons lived up to those expectations before being traded to the Las Vegas Raiders prior to last season.
Following another up-and-down year - totaling 45 tackles and seven pass deflections in 11 games - Ya-Sin became an unrestricted free agent. And after letting Marcus Peters walk and not selecting a cornerback in April's NFL Draft, the Ravens signed Ya-Sin to a one-year, $6 million deal a few days later.
Now entering his fifth career season, CBS Sports named the corner as Baltimore's most overvalued player entering this season.
"Days after the draft, the team agreed to a deal with Rock Ya-Sin, who is now slated to start in Baltimore's defense," CBS Sports writes. "Ya-Sin is on his third team in as many seasons after being a second-round draft choice of the Colts in 2019 and has not recorded an interception in the previous two seasons.
"That includes the 2022 campaign where he started in nine of his 11 games for the Raiders before going down with a season-ending knee injury in Week 13. Having Ya-Sin as a key starter does feel a bit thin for a Baltimore team that plays in a stacked AFC North and in a conference that also features Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen and Aaron Rodgers."
If Ya-Sin can replicate the production from his rookie campaign, this Baltimore secondary could be propelled into one of the league's best young cores.
