Roquan Smith And Baltimore Ravens Defense Ready For 'Physical' Tennessee Titans
The battle between the Baltimore Ravens and Tennessee Titans will likely come down to which team is more physical.
For Ravens linebacker Roquan Smith, the Titans' physicality on offense stands out, but he and the defense are more than ready to match their opponents in that department.
"Physical team," Smith said. "A physical team and that's something we pride ourselves on as well. Knowing they have a really good [running] back. [Derrick] Henry's been doing it a really long time and a good quarterback in {Ryan] Tannehill as well as you know D-Hop [Deandre Hopkins], one of the best in the game for a while. They definitely got some pieces over there."
The Ravens' (3-2) defense has been one of the best in the NFL through five games. They've allowed 15 points per game, the third least in the league. The Baltimore defense is also second in yards allowed per game (266.4) and sacks (18).
The unit's success has been largely led by Smith, who leads the team with 54 tackles and tied with defensive backs Brandon Stephens and Ronald Darby for most passes defended with four. Smith also has three tackles for loss, three quarterback hits and 1.5 sacks.
Tennessee's (2-3) offense is 26th in points, averaging 17.6 per game. For Smith, the key to slowing down the Titans' offense is containing the running game. Derrick Henry has long been one of the best and easily most physical running backs in the league. Thus far, he's run for 328 yards and two touchdowns.
"It's going to be about doing our job," Smith said. "Stopping the run first and foremost and what they definitely lean on all game long. Eliminating D-Hop as well because they're definitely going to try and get him the ball. It'll be a great match for us, a great challenge.
Baltimore faces Tennessee in London at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium at 9:30 a.m. ET.
