Ravens Sign Kareem Hunt? Why the RB Rumor Makes No Sense
The Baltimore Ravens are quite familiar with the work of Kareem Hunt, the "1B'' running back of the Cleveland Browns who remains on the shelf in NFL free agency.
But should that familiarity lead to a signing?
Hunt is being speculated as a player who could become a target ... and we are struggling to get it. The Ravens have seen him for the last four seasons playing with AFC North rivals the Cleveland Browns, and frankly, as he played behind Nick Chubb, they've seen him decline.
Hunt put in a trade request last year and nothing came of it. Now he's free, and and coming off a year during which he recorded a career-low 3.8 yards per carry, nothing is coming of his presence on the free agent market, either.
Hunt turns 28 this summer but hasn't been a high-usage guy, so there is likely still tread on the tires. And on his resume is an NFL rushing title from his rookie season.
But Baltimore already employs J.K. Dobbins, who is due to be allowed to be an every-down back, with Gus Edwards behind him. We're not sure why Baltimore needs another runner ... and we bet Hunt would eyeball the situation here and realize he'd be joining a too-crowded backfield.
The Ravens have their hands full in trying to assemble a winning offensive cast in 2023 (Odell Beckham Jr.?), mostly because they need finality on a plan with quarterback Lamar Jackson. But upgrading his receiving corps is also on the to-do list.
And we say contrary to some reports, the Ravens do not need to prioritize the bolstering of the running back room.
