Ravens Sign Nelson Agholor, Put in Offer For Odell Beckham Jr., Lamar Jackson Next?
The Baltimore Ravens and Lamar Jackson are still at loggerheads over a new contract. With the news that Jackson requested a trade away from the organization on March 2, many thought his time in Baltimore was ending abruptly.
But...
Despite the trade request, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport stated that, per his sources, Jackson was still "actively" in negotiations with the Ravens over a contract. Is the door slightly ajar?
Possibly.
Free agent receiver Nelson Agholor was signed to the team this week, and now comes reports per CBS' Josina Anderson that the Ravens are putting a "competitive" offer to Odell Beckham Jr.
That is two moves to address a glaring deficiency in the offense. But could it also make Lamar think twice about going ahead with his trade request?
Potentially.
Given that Rapoport stated Jackson was still in negotiations with Baltimore after his trade request, that does suggest that there is at least a small part of Jackson that wants to remain a Raven. Whether the franchise sees it that way is another thing.
A thought that could occupy Jackson's mind is that he is potentially next in line for a contract "if" Odell is signed to the team. Could it also make Lamar take a more "team-friendly" deal to link up with the free-agent receiver?
All of these things could be in play, but if the Ravens do, in fact, land Beckham Jr., that could be a game-changer in contract negotiations.
Baltimore was a playoff team without Lamar for the last month of football, and now adding Agholor and potentially Beckham Jr., it might just be enough to entice Lamar to come back to the negotiating table and get a deal done.
