Odell Beckham Jr. Called Jets Before Ravens Signing - Report

Prior to signing with the Baltimore Ravens, receiver Odell Beckham Jr. called the New York Jets and offered a chance to match the offer.
In this story:

After a free agency process that largely stretched back to last summer, former Pro Bowl receiver Odell Beckham Jr. opted to sign with the Baltimore Ravens over the New York Jets.

But ... Beckham ultimately put the ball in the Jets' court prior to officially joining the Ravens.

Per SNY, Beckham called the Jets and gave them a chance to match the Ravens' offer, but New York was "never going that high," in reference to the price tag.

The 30-year-old Beckham, who hasn't played since tearing his ACL in the Super Bowl just over 14 months ago, signed a one-year deal worth up to $18 million.

Should Beckham have opted for New York, he would've likely teamed up with quarterback Aaron Rodgers, whom he shares a close relationship with.

Instead, Beckham's headed to Baltimore, where he signed with the belief that Lamar Jackson will be under center - and the duo's reported conversations about winning a Super Bowl together only further that idea.

But Beckham's decision appeared to have more to do with money and role than quarterback play.

SNY added that the Ravens gave OBJ the chance to be a No. 1 wideout, while he'd be No. 3 in New York. Still, the Jets were frontrunners for Beckham all the way up through scheduling a visit, at which point Baltimore raised its offer to a level no other team wanted to match.

And with that, Beckham became a Raven - but only after giving the Jets one last opportunity to make a deal happen.
