Ravens Legend Terrell Suggs Rejects David Ojabo's Request to Wear No. 55

Baltimore Ravens linebacker David Ojabo wanted to switch to No. 55, but franchise legend Terrell Suggs stood in the way

The Baltimore Ravens don't have any retired numbers officially, but they might as well. The team has had a few numbers it hasn't issued since legendary players retired, such as No. 75 for Jonathan Ogden, No. 52 for Ray Lewis and No. 20 for Ed Reed. Now, it's safe to add No. 55 to that list in honor of Terrell Suggs.

Linebacker David Ojabo found that out the hard way. The second-year pass rusher asked to wear Suggs' No. 55 and even brought his request to team owner Steven Biscotti. However, the franchise legend turned Ojabo's request down.

“Suggs not letting me," Ojabo said. "We had discussions, got Bisciotti involved a little bit, but that’s above me. He’s a legend. So I’m going to stick with 90. I had to try, but he’s not going for it.”

The No. 55 has significance to Ojabo, as he wore it during his time in college with the Michigan Wolverines. But it appears he will keep the No. 90 he donned upon joining the Ravens.

Ojabo likely would've likely been a first-round pick in 2022 but suffered a torn ACL at his pro day that hurt his draft stock. Despite the injury, the Ravens snagged him with the No. 45 pick in the second round. He returned for the regular-season finale against the Cincinnati Bengals, posting a sack and a forced fumble in 20 snaps.

Suggs is someone who needs no introduction in Baltimore. He played with the Ravens from 2003 to 2018 and is the team's all-time leader in sacks with 132.5. After leaving the Ravens, Suggs spent time with the Arizona Cardinals and the Chiefs in 2019, winning a ring in Kansas Ci.

Ojabo would like to join Suggs in the record books one day, but it won't be in his No. 55.
