Weight of The World? 'Pressure Is On' Ravens, Todd Monken Offense

The Baltimore Ravens have one of the most explosive offenses on paper in the NFL, and for new offensive coordinator Todd Monken, that means pressure to deliver straight away.
In this story:

Entering the new NFL season, many players are under pressure to perform, but Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken is one of those non-players who has the weight of the world on his shoulders.

Having been named offensive coordinator, Monken is overseeing a transition to a more vertical-style offense with Baltimore. Having key weapons in Odell Beckham Jr. and draftee Zay Flowers, along with free agent Nelson Agholor and the returning Rashod Bateman, many have Baltimore as the most explosive offense in football...on paper anyway.

Such is the offense's projected ability, former NFL linebacker Emmanuel Acho compiled a list of the five non-quarterbacks under the most pressure next season, with Monken making the list.

“He won two national championships in back-to-back years as the offensive coordinator at Georgia,” Acho said on FS1's Speak. “Lamar Jackson said he wanted a new OC; enter Todd Monken. Now remember the last time Odell Beckham Jr. had a 1,000-yard season was when Todd Monken was the offensive coordinator for the Cleveland Browns in 2019. He does have NFL experience. Pressure is on this year with that loaded roster.”

For many, the Ravens are one of the dark horses for the AFC next season. With a fully healthy Lamar Jackson and now a host of attacking weapons, the expectation is for Baltimore to be contending for a Super Bowl.

But with those expectations comes pressure, and Monken, despite being in his first season with Baltimore, will be expected to hit the ground running, especially given the offensive talent that has been assembled.

The Ravens have been a playoff team or thereabouts since Jackson took over the starting role, and with a high-octane offense, it is time to deliver, and for Acho, that falls squarely on the shoulders of Monken.

The weapons are there, the new offensive system is designed to get the best out of Jackson and his receivers; the time is now for the Ravens to capitalize and go on a deep playoff run next season.
