Did Tyler Huntley Secure Ravens' QB2 Position After Performance vs. Eagles?
The Baltimore Ravens narrowly escaped the Philadelphia Eagles on Saturday night in M&T Bank Stadium, securing a 20-19 victory in their preseason opener. Baltimore keeps its win streak alive and has now won 24 straight preseason games.
Ravens backup quarterback Tyler Huntley did not start the game under center for Baltimore, but he had the best night out of the three signal-callers who took the field instead of superstar Lamar Jackson.
Huntley came in for Josh Johnson after the first half and found the end zone on his first drive of the preseason with a 10-yard touchdown pass to receiver Tylan Wallace.
Huntley led all Ravens quarterbacks on Saturday completing eight throws on 11 attempts for 88 yards, one touchdown, and a 126.3 QBR. The former Utah prospect did not take a sack or turn the ball over while averaging eight yards per throw.
Huntley has shown flashes during his three years in the NFL but looked like a new quarterback in preseason Game 1. Whether it was the addition of new offensive coordinator Todd Monken or newfound confidence after an offseason of improvement, Huntley appears more than capable of holding down the backup quarterback position in Baltimore.
Should Jackson be forced to miss time due to an unforeseen injury, Ravens fans should feel comfortable if placed in Huntley's hands.
