Ravens Zay Flowers Ready to be Lamar Jackson's No. 1 WR?
The Baltimore Ravens offense has been the talk of preseason around the NFL. With Todd Monken's more pass-oriented offensive style, some feel the Ravens have one of the most explosive offenses in the league. But who could spearhead it?
Odell Beckham Jr. and Mark Andrews are the obvious choices, but what about rookie Zay Flowers? For ESPN, Flowers has every chance to be Jackson's leading man after an impressive preseason.
“Flowers has a chance to become Lamar Jackson's No. 1 wide receiver because of his ability to get open and elude tacklers,” ESPN wrote. “Jackson nicknamed Flowers "Joystick" after the wide receiver juked out middle linebacker Roquan Smith in the first practice of training camp. In the second preseason game, Flowers scored a 26-yard touchdown in which he had 21 yards after the catch.”
Flowers has been as advertised thus far, and when the regular season begins, all eyes will be on him and the Ravens' offense to see exactly what Monken's new system looks like. While there have been detractors to the offensive scheme, for the most part, it's all positive regarding what Baltimore could look like.
Jackson has perhaps the best collection of skill position talent at his disposal as Andrews, Flowers, Beckham Jr., Devin Duvernay, Nelson Agholor, and Rashod Bateman all have enough talent to trouble defenses. Not to mention the running back room of J.K. Dobbins, Gus Edwards, and Justice Hill.
There will be ups and downs, but the overall excitement that is currently coursing through the Baltimore organization is getting hard to contain.
While we are at that stage of the preseason where every player looks like a Pro Bowler, the sun is always shining, and nothing can bring fans down, it is important to remember that it is "only" preseason.
With Flowers, he has shown everything that the Ravens would have wanted to see this preseason. As he enters his rookie season, he has the ability to become one of, if not the leading weapon for a potent Baltimore offense.
