Pittsburgh Steelers' DE J.J. Watt Fined For Actions Against Baltimore Ravens

Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker T.J. Watt was fined for multiple infractions in the Week 5 game against the Baltimore Ravens.

Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker T.J. Watt was fined a total of $25,132 for two infractions that he committed in a Week 5 win against the Baltimore Ravens. 

With 15 seconds left in the game, the Ravens faced a 4th and 7 from their own 28-yard line, down 17-10. Baltimore quarterback Lamar Jackson tried to escape the pass rush but Watt was able to bring him down, effectively ending the game with a sack. To celebrate, Watt removed his helmet while in the field of play, resulting in an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty and a fine of $13,659.

Earlier in the game, Watt broke up a pass from Jackson to Zay Flowers by striking Flowers in the helmet with his fist, essentially just punching Flowers in the helmet instead of going for the ball. While there was no penalty called on the field for the play, Watt was fined $11,473 for the play.

Watt is currently signed to a four-year, $112 million contract with the Steelers. He is a five-time Pro Bowler, has made First Team All-Pro three times, and was named Defensive Player of the Year in 2021. 

For his career, Watt has recorded 348 tackles, 85.5 sacks, 95 tackles for loss, 25 forced fumbles, 41 passes defended and six interceptions. Watt is the brother of former NFL player J.J. Watt, who is considered to be one of the greatest defensive players ever and a lock for the Hall of Fame. 

Watt is 9-4 against the Ravens in his career with 14.0 sacks and 46 tackles in 13 games. Pittsburgh is currently tied with Baltimore for first place in the AFC North at 3-2 but holds the tiebreaker due to the Week 5 win.
