Report: TE Foster Moreau has offer from New Orleans Saints
Less than two months ago, former Las Vegas Raiders tight end Foster Moreau was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma during a visit with the New Orleans Saints. Moreau was back in his home state on a free agency visit when he underwent the physical that led to his diagnosis. As he begins his process of tackling the life-altering news, Moreau has never dimmed the light on continuing his football career. And now, per WWL-TV sports reporter and anchor Brooke Kirchhofer, he has interest from several teams including an offer from the Saints themselves.
Soon after the initial diagnosis, the former Jesuit high school athlete returned to New Orleans to finish his physical examination. That return sparked many curiosities around the Saints and Moreau potentially still coming to a deal. And that was before the team traded away tight end Adam Trautman during the 2023 NFL draft. While that could still be the case, it looks like New Orleans will have some competition in the matter.
If the Saints were to end up signing Moreau, they could assign him the league's Non-Football Injury (NFI) designation. This would allow the tight end time to go through his treatments and regime, but keep him with the team until he is medically cleared to participate. If that clearance during the 2023 season, the Saints could then activate him after Week 4 from the list and a quality player would be added to their roster for a pivotal stretch run.
New Orleans has a clear need at tight end, even though they have every reason to feel confident in the unit's top player Juwan Johnson. Having a second tight end on a team with a talented run game and that uses multiple looks to take advantage of mismatches could use another proven pass-catcher and blocker in the room.
Will the Saints get the commitment from Moreau? That remains to be seen. But what is almost certain is that once the former LSU Tiger is ready to return to the game of football, he will have suitors ready to invest in his talents.
