Saints 2023 Schedule Thoughts
The NFL Schedule is out, and we can officially see how the Saints stack up. If you haven't checked out their schedule, go here. Here's some of our biggest takeaways.
Overview
The Saints are among the teams with the lowest amount of miles to travel in 2023 at 14,490. 13 of their 17 games will be played indoors this season, and all of the outdoor venues they've played at within the past couple of years (Green Bay and New England) outside of the normal matchups against the Bucs and Panthers. Also, 13 of the 17 games are noon kicks. They have the second easiest strength of schedule going into the season.
Three Primetime Games
It's what we projected for the Saints. An early primetime matchup in Week 2 on Monday Night Football from Charlotte against the Panthers, as well as two Thursday Night Football games. Their first will be at home against the Jaguars in Week 7, and the other will be in Los Angeles to take on the Rams in Week 16. New Orleans will be coming off a road game against the Texans before they play the Jaguars and a home game against the Giants before they matchup against the Rams.
Early Road Test
Four of the team's first six games will be on the road. Going a step further, four of the first eleven are at home. After opening up at home against the Titans, the Saints will have back-to-back road trips in Weeks 2 and 3. While the Panthers are a familiar foe and seem to be early season trouble for New Orleans, the team will face a shorter week playing them on Monday Night Football before heading to Green Bay. They'll come home to host the Bucs on Oct. 1, and will be on the road again for back-to-back weeks when they play the Patriots and Texans.
Home Stand
If you want to look at the other side of the coin, four of the final six games will be played in the Superdome for the Saints. They do have a back-to-back stint for Weeks 16 and 17 on the road against the Rams and Bucs, and that matchup against the Falcons might have a little bit of meaning to it.
Bye Week Seems Right
After their road game against the Vikings in Week 10, they'll have their bye week before traveling to take on the Falcons in Week 12. This feels like a good spot for New Orleans, who has been riddled with injuries the past couple of years. In essence, anyone who might be hurt early in the year or dealing with certain things could make their return against Atlanta. The big focus for New Orleans will be finishing strong, which will help being at home.
