BREAKING: Saints Return Familiar Wide Receiver
METAIRIE — Starting wide receiver Michael Thomas looks like he will miss at least one game, if not more, as he manages his knee injury. For the New Orleans Saints, that is tough news with just seven games left to go on the regular season.
While the team has young talent at the position, veteran depth can never hurt. That may be what has led to a reunion between the Saints and veteran wideout Marquez Callaway, per John Hendrix.
Callaway was spotted at during the team’s open locker room session on Monday. The timing of the arrival is important as well as head coach Dennis Allen said that Thomas and starting cornerback Marshon Lattimore’s injuries are ones that will “take some time” in his Monday press conference.
Whether or not Callaway has been signed to the active roster or practice squad remains to be seen. But that information will be known soon enough.
Either way, it would not be surprising to see the former Tennessee Volunteer active for the next few games if Thomas remains unavailable. Callaway knows the system well and spent multiple years in it since he first arrived in 2020. He can also contribute as a run blocker, which the team lives from the position.
The wideout has reeled in 83 catches for 1,069 receiving yards and 7 touchdown catches in his 42 game appearances with the team. This season Callaway also spent time with the Denver Broncos and Las Vegas Raiders this season.
