Pregame
Kendre Miller was among the first to hit the field for the Saints on Sunday. He's going to be making his first career start and will be needed in a big way this week. New Orleans elevated Johnathan Abram and Cameron Dantzler from the practice squad for this game.
Pregame Notes
- Several players are making their first starts in this game, with the main focuses being on Jordan Howden and Kendre Miller.
- Isaac Yiadom is making his first start since Week 15 of the 2020 season when he was with the Giants. He logged 65 snaps in a 27-13 loss to Baltimore.
- Jimmy Graham could be someone with a much larger role today. The Saints will miss some of the dirty work that Moreau does, so it'll be something to keep tabs on.
- Ugo Amadi (knee) was a late add to the injury report and was questionable entering the game.
- Lonnie Johnson Jr. looks like he's behind Jordan Howden. That'll be something to pay attention to when the Saints go in dime.
- As of right now, Alontae Taylor and Marshon Lattimore are playing on the outside at corner.
- The Packers won the toss and elected to defer to the second half kickoff.
First Quarter - Saints 7, Packers 0
Scoring
- Saints, 6:40 - Jimmy Graham 8-yard touchdown reception from Derek Carr. (9-55, 4:04)
Notes
- Interesting formation for the Saints with four receivers bunched at the bottom. That play was behind Michael Thomas, but I like the creativity.
- Kenny Clark blew up the interior to get a 10-yard sack. That's not particularly encouraging based on last, but also it's Kenny Clark.
- Isaac Yiadom ended up getting the start outside with Alontae Taylor in the slot. The Saints did a lot of rotation, however, putting Taylor on the outside at times.
- The trick play on 4th-and-2 almost worked for the Packers. They're going to have to take shots to help today.
- Andrus Peat was the jumbo offensive lineman to start. We haven't really seen much of that this season.
- Big catch by Chris Olave and cut to pick up a first down.
- Tony Jones Jr. had a really nice conversion on 3rd Down after Derek Carr made an audible. He was wide open in the flats.
- Welcome back, Jimmy Graham. He made his first catch of the season, which ended up being an 8-yard touchdown. Also, red zone touchdowns.
- The coverage wasn't so hot on a deep attempt to Luke Musgrave. Although it didn't connect, you can't let those big plays beat you.
- Malcolm Roach made a really nice tackle for loss after first contact from Demario Davis. He's really been quietly strong in run support.
- Nice play by Bryan Bresee to break up a Jordan Love pass on 3rd-and-10 after the Packers were called for a false start. Carl Granderson was also rushing from the inside on that play.
Second Quarter - Saints 17, Packers 0
Scoring
- Saints, 10:30 - 76-yard punt return by Rashid Shaheed.
- Saints, 0:06 - Blake Grupe 25-yard field goal. (14-82, 4:24)
Notes
- Andrus Peat ended up going in for Cesar Ruiz, who went to the blue medical tent. James Hurst moved over to right guard, while Peat went to left guard.
- Carr's second sack came from right side pressure. Not ideal.
- Alontae Taylor had a free rush and couldn't get Jordan Love down, who turned it into a 5-yard gain. However, he made up for it not long after with a pass breakup.
- Marshon Lattimore had a pass breakup to get the Packers off the field. It might have been a little questionable on the coverage, but no call.
- Rashid Shaheed got his first punt return touchdown of his career, the team's first since 2019. It was from 76 yards.
- Cesar Ruiz was ruled out for the rest of the game with a concussion.
- Jordan Love lucked out on his deep shot throwing into triple coverage. Tyrann Mathieu was credited with a pass breakup and almost had the pick.
- Alontae Taylor had a heck of a drive. He had a couple of pass breakups and also a huge sack for 14 yards on Love.
- Real nice run to the left side with Tony Jones Jr. to start the drive following the punt. Picked up 19 yards.
- Good decision-making by Kendre Miller on the following run, picking up another Saints first down on back-to-back plays.
- What. A. Catch. By Chris Olave. He made it look way too easy with his sideline grab to pick up 27 yards.
Third Quarter - Saints 17, Packers 0
Scoring
None
Notes
- Alontae Taylor cannot be ignored. He made another killer play on the Packers first offensive series and made a tackle for a 6-yard loss.
- Lonnie Johnson Jr. got the first turnover the day, which happened to be Jordan Love's first pick and the first turnover by Green Bay all season.
- Carr's third sack of the game was a very costly one, as he was down on the field after the play. It's unclear as to what the actual injury was, but it didn't look good and looked like it was in the right arm area. He went into the medical tent and ended up leaving the field.
- Alontae Taylor kept his unreal game going with another pass breakup on play. Isaac Yiadom turned the Packers aside with another one not long after.
- Jameis Winston's first pass was complete to Juwan Johnson on a nice hookup.
- Kendre Miller made a really nice move on 3rd-and-1 to pickup a Saints first down on a 6-yard gain.
- Derek Carr has a shoulder injury and is questionable to return.
- Carl Granderson had a nice run stop to start the ensuing Saints drive after the Lou Hedley punt was downed inside the 5-yard-line.
- Packers offense did a really nice job digging themselves out of the hole. They got some big plays, including a big 30-yard hookup to Romeo Doubs. They got into the red zone for the first time with less than a minute left in the 3rd Quarter.
- Real nice play by Jordan Howden on Luke Musgrave in the flats on the 3rd-and-5 play.
Fourth Quarter
Scoring
- Packers, 11:00 - Anders Carlson 38-yard field goal. (7-46, 1:50)
- Packers, 6:58 - Jordan Love 2-yard run. 2-point attempt good to Samori Toure. (7-80, 1:29)
- Packers, 2:56 - Romeo Doubs 8-yard touchdown reception from Jordan Love. (9-80, 2:27)
Notes
- Jordan Love missed badly on the 4th-and-2 play to give the Saints back the ball.
- Really not a fan of some of the conservative play calling on the ensuing possession.
- Defense gave up some big plays on their drive that led to a Packers field goal. You probably want to see a little tighter defense.
- Good pass breakup by Isaac Yiadom on an end zone shot from Love to Malik Heath.
- Jameis Winston got sacked, as Rashan Gary picked up his third of the game. It looked like he got beat off the right side with Landon Young.
- Real nice hookup from Winston to Michael Thomas to pick up 18 yards to at least make it 3rd and manageable. However, the Saints came up short.
- 67. That's the amount of yardage the Packers got in penalties on their next possession. Both were pass interference calls, on Alontae Taylor (45) and Isaac Yiadom (22).
- Tyrann Mathieu made a really good play on Jayden Reed near the goal line.
- Demario Davis got juked on the Jordan Love run for a score. The Packers went for 2 and ended up converting. They gave Love a good bit of time.
- The Saints weren't able to do anything on the next possession. That 3rd Down play wasn't even close.
- Really nice special teams by J.T. Gray on the punt. The Packers also got a holding call in the process.
- Jordan Love picking up 24 yards on his run while faking going to the sideline was a really nice move.
- Isaac Yiadom was tested a good bit, having a mixed bag on the day. However, he was targeted on the Romeo Doubs touchdown play.
- Michael Thomas made a pretty crazy catch to start the drive. It might have only been 5 yards, but it was still something.
- Chris Olave ended up having some killer catches on the drive, going over 100 yards for the day.
- Blake Grupe missed from 46. Wide right. Brutal way to lose a football game when you were in the driver's seat all game.
