What to Expect From the Saints

KEY NEEDS: DT, DE, RB, WR, LB, S, OL

New Orleans started working the phone lines on Wednesday afternoon, as Mickey Loomis had conversations with other general managers to find out who may want to trade down. That will continue leading up to the Day 1 festivities. Familiar trade partners would be a key theme to watch when the Saints wheel and deal, and where to pay attention to them moving would be in the back-half of the draft. By pick No. 18, that could be prime territory for the Saints to trade up if they want to get their guy.

It's hard to see New Orleans actually making all of their eight picks. They've made seven in a couple of recent drafts (2017 and 2018), but 2015 was the most picks they selected (nine) since 2002. Key needs exist across the roster, but perhaps none bigger than defensive tackle. There's cases to be made for other spots, and some could be addressed after the draft.

Prior to joining Saints News Network, I served as the Managing Editor of SB Nation's Canal Street Chronicles for 3.5 years, and before that with FanSided's Who Dat Dish as the Managing Editor for several years. I have also had experiences of being a freelance Saints reporter for The Sun Herald in Biloxi, MS and a contributing writer for WDSU, a local NBC TV station in New Orleans.
