Alvin Kamara Wants to Finish Career with Saints

New Orleans Saints defensive end Cam Jordan signed a new extension on Friday, and running back Alvin Kamara would not mind a similar opportunity.

METAIRIE - It was a bit of a surprise when New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara took the podium today to speak with local media. He was not scheduled initially to do so, but took it upon himself to address several outstanding topics.

Kamara described his meeting with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, saying that it went well and that they accomplished what he had set out to accomplish. He also express his regret around the incident that took place in Las Vegas along with the relief that comes with the situation being resolved from a legal standpoint. But it was his response to being asked about Cam Jordan's two-year contract extension that could get lost in the mix.

"I don't want to talk about Cam, I want to talk about me," Kamara joked. "I want a lifetime contract. I want to be here forever. I think y'all (media) need to put some pressure on Mickey (Loomis) how y'all did for Cam when he said that!"

When asked further if he would be interested in spending his entire career with the Saints like Jordan, Kamara gave a resounding yes. "Yeah, of course I am!" Kamara said. "Like I said, I love it here. There's a lot of support here."

Kamara is on his second contract with the Saints already, which is not set to expire until after the 2025 season. He signed a 5-year, $75 million deal back in 2020. One of the most lucrative deals for a running back in today's NFL. Kamara and his draft class partner San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey sit atop the league at their position in per year value.

On his contract and the current landscape of running backs around the NFL, Kamara began simply. "New Orleans is a great place," he said. "I feel great that I've been able to be taken care of and valued where I'm at."

With the average career length of an NFL running back hovering just over 2.5 years, Kamara has already outpaced the established expectations. Hopefully, he will continue to do that in a revamped backfield which should get him back to the essence of what made him recognized as a great early in his career. With running mates like Jamaal Williams and rookie Kendre Miller in his position room, there should be a lot more opportunities for him to be involved in the passing game and getting the ball in space.

If all goes well, Kamara could see another contract in the Big Easy before his current deal is up, just like Jordan saw. Which would allow Kamara, who wants to finish his career as a Saints running back, the chance to live out his goal.
