DK Metcalf Comes Alive Late, Sparks Seattle Seahawks Past Philadelphia Eagles: 'He Made The Plays!'

DK Metcalf Comes Alive Late, Sparks Seattle Seahawks Past Philadelphia Eagles

Seattle Seahawks receiver DK Metcalf has had a history of big games against the Philadelphia Eagles during his career, but it looked like both he and the Seahawks would be heading toward the franchise's first loss to Philly in the Pete Carroll era late in Monday night's game at Lumen Field.

Instead, Metcalf awoke from his nearly game-long slumber and came through when Seattle needed it most, catching three passes for 58 yards on Seattle's final drive to help set up the game-winning touchdown to secure the 20-17 win.

Though it was Jaxon Smith-Njigba who scored the go-ahead 29-yard touchdown with 28 seconds left, it was Metcalf who got the Seahawks down the field before finishing the night with five catches for 78 yards.

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll praised Metcalf after the game.

"DK came through in the last drive and other times in the game," Carroll said. "Tough plays, really difficult plays. He made them, other guys might not make.

" ... I thought the completions to DK were amazing. One up the middle he ripped. When he was tightly covered, for DK to make that catch in such a crucial situation. The throw was low, contested, all of that. Fantastic play. He made the plays he needed to make to win the game."

Metcalf ended last week's loss to the San Francisco 49ers jogging to the locker room after being ejected, but looked the star receiver he's supposed to be on Monday by making two circus catches to keep the chains moving in the final moments of the game. He got things going with an 18-yard grab before somehow coming up with a six-yard catch two plays later that saw the ball bounce into his arms amid blanketed coverage from Eagles cornerback James Bradberry.

But then came one of the plays of the night, as Metcalf Willie Mays-ed his way to an over-the-shoulder, 34-yard grab on 3rd and 10 with 56 seconds left to put Seattle at the Philly 29-yard line.

After two incompletions, Lock found Smith-Njigba for the go-ahead score.

Metcalf has had his ups and downs this year while being flooded with fines from the league, but he's delivered for the Seahawks over the past three games and will be critical to the team's success during this final playoff push.
