Seattle Seahawks' Jaxon Smith-Njigba Clutch Again in Win vs. Philadelphia Eagles: 'He's Just That Good!'
Seattle Seahawks rookie receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba has continued to look like a seasoned veteran this season. He caught a game-winning touchdown in Week 7 against the Cleveland Browns, which marked one of Seattle's best wins this season.
But to do it twice? No way.
Believe it or not, Smith-Njigba ended up topping his previous game-winner and gave the Seahawks their new-best win of the year in Monday's thrilling 20-17 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles at Lumen Field, as he capped off a 92-yard drive with a 29-yard go-ahead touchdown catch from Drew Lock with 28 seconds left.
"That's the guy that's gonna make that play," Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said. "He's gonna make that catch. He's just that good. And for him to have that opportunity for Drew to put the ball on him, for Shane (Waldron) to call it, guys protect, all of that there's so many gorgeous things that happened there football wise."
Per the Elias Sports Bureau, JSN "is the only rookie since 1960 with two game-winning TD receptions in the final minute of the fourth quarter."
The game-winning score ended the Seahawks' (7-7) four-game losing streak and kept their dwindling playoff hopes alive with three games left in the regular season.
Smith-Njigba was a bit quiet for most of the night, but made the best play of his young NFL career when it mattered most. He finished with four catches (on four targets) for 48 yards and the touchdown, which was the third score of his rookie season.
He admitted the moment was a "big deal" for the offense, which has struggled to find consistency.
'Amazing!' Drew Lock Reacts to Big Win vs. Eagles
"We work on two-minute (drill) every single day, every single day," Smith-Njigba said on ESPN. "For us to go out there and execute, it's a big deal. We had confidence you know, we've been here before, been in a lot of two-minute games and, you know, just for us execute, it's huge. This is a must-win game for us. So just excited we got this one."
The Seahawks will look to ride this huge momentum boost when they face the Tennessee Titans on Sunday.
