There has been some weird agenda-driven water-carrying in recent days regarding the head coaching vacancy of the Los Angeles Chargers. We know Pete Carroll touched base there to express interest ... and then we know somebody turned that into a massive and errant story.

And we've got Jim Harbaugh - seemingly a leading candidate for that job - now playing footsie with the Atlanta Falcons in the form of a second interview that has been postponed or cancelled or the dog ate his homework.

And Bill Belichick sycophants are still pushing the idea of him being "hot'' despite the fact that the Chargers have never interviewed him. Indeed, outside of the Atlanta Falcons, nobody has ever interviewed him.

Meanwhile, there are supporters of the idea of Carroll, the just deposed Seattle Seahawks coach, getting a top job elsewhere.

And in the case of retired NFL superstar J.J. Watt? He is a fan of Carroll. ... with no hidden agendas or goofy sucking up.

"I feel like Pete Carroll would be a great fit with the Chargers," said Watt, the long-time Houston Texans star, on the Pat McAfee Show.

We're pretty sure Carroll agrees. But ...

Maybe it's because he's 72. (Same with Belichick, by the way, who is 71). For now, anyway, Carroll has a front-office advisory role with the Seahawks as Seattle looks to hire his replacement (from a group that includes old pal Dan Quinn) ... maybe with the help of Pete himself.

Seahawks BREAKING: Pete Carroll OUT as Coach; Could Move to Front Office?

On paper? Carroll would be a fine candidate for any job considering his 137-89-1 record during the 14 seasons he spent with the Seahawks. He also led them to a Super Bowl title in 2013-14. But maybe he doesn't have as many media water-carriers as the others. Maybe he's just supported by sincere thoughts of sincere football people like Watt.
