Seahawks Ex RB Alex Collins Dead after Motorcycle Crash
Former Seattle Seahawks running back Alex Collins passed away at the age of 28 after being involved in a motorcycle crash.
The Seahawks reacted to the news of Collins' passing on Twitter, stating, "Absolutely heartbreaking. Prayers are with the Collins family."
The Baltimore Ravens, Collins' other former team, put out a statement in remembrance of the running back, as did coach John Harbaugh.
"With heavy hearts, we mourn the passing of Alex Collins," the Ravens said. "Always quick to greet everyone with a smile, he was a genuinely kind person who carried a special joy and passion wherever he went. May Alex always be remembered for the light and love he brought to so many people in his life."
"Alex was a joy to be around and someone whose light shined brightly," Harbaugh said. "I'll always remember him for being a great teammate who had an uplifting spirit that impacted everyone he encountered. He was also a smart player who ran with unlimited determination, and he contributed to a lot of our success during his time in Baltimore. We send our heartfelt condolences and support to Alex's family. May he now rest in God's eternal peace."
Collins was driving his motorcycle and crashed into a vehicle on Sunday night in Lauderdale Lakes, Florida, the Broward County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
The Seahawks selected Collins in the fifth round in 2016 out of Arkansas. After a quiet rookie season, Collins was waived by the Seahawks in September of 2017 and signed to the Ravens' practice squad. After two seasons in Baltimore (he missed the entire 2019 campaign), Collins came back to the Seahawks and spent two more seasons with them. Most recently, Collins played for the Memphis Showboats of the USFL earlier this year.
Collins had 1,997 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns in his NFL career.
