Seattle Seahawks Coach Mike Macdonald 'Not Intimidated' by Pete Carroll's Shadow
In this story:

After parting ways with Pete Carroll, the Seattle Seahawks needed to hire a new head coach that could keep up the culture that he and so many others built over the course of the past 14 seasons.

Mike Macdonald was announced as Seattle's new coach two weeks ago Wednesday, but he's showing early signs of why he's the man for the job when it comes to personality and approach. Of course, on-field results will need to follow suit.

For now though, it seems the Seahawks have a made a potential win-now hire. When asked about following up Carroll's legacy during an appearance on Seattle Sports 710 Tuesday, Macdonald's emphatic response was proof.

"I'm not intimidated by that," Macdonald said of succeeding Carroll. "It's not something that I'm worried about, it's something that you want to embrace."

Macdonald also admitted that he and his new regime plan to "build around" the legacy that Carroll left.

"I think we're just gonna go with the mentality of, hey, let's do what's best for the Seahawks and the guys that we have and where we want to go, kind of the remnants of coach Carroll's legacy here," Macdonald said. "We're not trying to shy away, we want to be around that, we want to build around that."

Responses like these are likely music to the ears of many Seahawks fans. Macdonald is already talking the talk about what to expect in Year 1. If it can translate to the field, it'll be hard to slow down a Seattle squad that has no shortage of talent.
