DK Metcalf 'Best in the World!' Geno Smith on Seahawks WR
Upon entering the NFL, Seattle Seahawks receiver D.K. Metcalf wasted no time in capturing the attention of the league's fanbase.
Metcalf's rise to stardom actually began before he was even drafted, when he put on a show at the NFL Scouting Combine with phenomenal athleticism for someone of his 6-4, 235-pound frame. After the Seahawks drafted him in the second round, he immediately became an impact player with 900 yards and seven touchdowns as a rookie. Metcalf has continuously built on that strong rookie season, and is now seen as one of the game's top receivers.
While Metcalf has certainly earned the admiration of NFL fans, but there are those who believe he deserves even more respect. His quarterback Geno Smith is among that group, who over the weekend, referred to his favorite target as the "best in the world."
Smith took over the starting quarterback job this year, and he and Metcalf instantly clicked. The fourth-year receiver had a career-high 94 receptions for 1,048 yards and six touchdowns, and became much more of a workhorse receiver as opposed to mainly a deep threat, as he was previously.
Despite his strong play, Metcalf hasn't exactly racked up the inidividual awards. He was a Pro Bowler and second-team All-Pro in 2020, but those are his only individual accolades through his first four seasons.
To Smith and others, Metcalf deserves far more recognition for his achievements. The star receiver will look to prove his believers right as he gears up for his fifth NFL season.
