Seattle Seahawks' D.K. Metcalf on Dallas Cowboys' DaRon Bland: 'More Touchdowns Than Me!'
Seattle Seahawks receiver D.K. Metcalf has had an up and down season, but his most recent game was certainly a low point.
In a primetime Thanksgiving game against the San Francisco 49ers with the NFC West lead on the line, Metcalf was essentially a non-factor with just three receptions for 32 yards in a blowout loss. Granted, pretty much no one on offense had a good game, but that speaks to the problems plaguing Seattle right now.
Life for Metcalf and co. won't get any easier with another Thursday game coming up, this time a road matchup against the Dallas Cowboys. In that game, Metcalf expects to match up against breakout star cornerback DaRon Bland, who on Thanksgiving, set an NFL record with his fifth pick six of the season.
Ahead of Thursday's game, Metcalf previewed the matchup with Bland while cracking a joke at his own expense.
"I was thinking like 'he's got more touchdowns than me,'" Metcalf told reporters Sunday. "He does what the receivers should do and that’s shave angles and meet the ball, he does an exceptional job at that and it’s rare that you see a cornerback be able to track the ball and catch the ball like he does, he does it effortlessly.
"Him and (Stephon) Gilmore are a tandem and hate to see Trevon Diggs go down, my prayers go out to him on his road to recovery. But it seems like the next one up is duplicate of him so, got to shave angles."
As hard as it may be to believe, Metcalf isn't wrong when it comes to both player's number of touchdowns. The star receiver has three touchdowns on the season while Bland has five as a defensive player.
As tough of a matchup as Bland may provide, Metcalf is more focused on what he can control ahead of what may be a must-win game.
Seahawks 'Have to Look in The Mirror' as Cowboys Loom
"I get caught up in trying to do too much sometimes instead of just doing my job," Metcalf said. "That’s one thing I’m going to focus on this week is just doing my job and trying to execute the play to the best of my ability."
