Seahawks QB Drew Lock Reveals 'Plethora of Reasons' for Re-Signing

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Drew Lock shared the various reasons for his decision to re-sign with the team this offseason.
In this story:

Drew Lock lost the starting quarterback position to Geno Smith in his first season with the Seattle Seahawks during training camp last year. However, when the time came to make a decision about his future, he wanted to remain in the Emerald City and continue backing up Smith.

When questioned after Thursday night's 24-13 preseason victory against the Minnesota Vikings about his choice to re-sign with the Seahawks during free agency, he cited various factors, including the influence of coach Pete Carroll.

"A plethora of reasons. One, Coach Carroll has been fantastic to me since I've been here," Lock said. "The way he runs this program and this organization, it's fun. You want to come to work. You want to get better. You want to be there with your brothers in the locker room. I think in an environment like that, I just don't think every place has it. This place was special to me."

Lock also revealed that in addition to his numerous reasons for wanting to re-sign, offensive coordinator Shane Waldron also played a significant role in his decision.

"Shane Waldron has done a fantastic job in my eyes through watching it last season with the way he called plays for G (Geno Smith), the system that we run. I feel comfortable in it," Lock said.

However, while Lock holds the Seahawks' culture in high regard, his long-term future with the team is not secured, as he signed only a one-year deal with them. After a solid game against the Vikings, during which he threw for 191 yards and two touchdowns, he looks to utilize the remainder of the preseason to demonstrate that he can still be a serviceable NFL quarterback.
