Seattle Seahawks QB Geno Smith Reveals 'Experience Gained' for Team Since Week 1
The Seattle Seahawks and the Los Angeles Rams will do battle for the second time this season on Sunday at SoFi Stadium.
The Rams defeated the Seahawks 30-13 at Lumen Field in the season opener, as coach Sean McVay's team piled on 23 unanswered points during the second half in an upset win.
Seattle's Week 1 embarrassment is still on the mind of Geno Smith and Co., but he explained how the team has grown from it.
“Over the course of the season, just all of the experience we’ve gained," Smith said. "We had some younger guys playing who were playing in their first game and now they’re a few games in now. They have a better understanding of what’s going on. We’ve played a ton of guys up front and the addition of guys like Jason Peters and other guys like Stone (Forsythe) stepping up and Jake (Curhan) and all of the guys who stepped in there and played, they’ve gained a ton of experience. Overall, we’re just growing, still learning; long season ahead of us. We’re really just getting better throughout the season I think.”
In the first loss, the Rams defense, led by star defensive tackle Aaron Donald, kept the Seahawks offense scoreless in the second half while allowing 13 first downs, two third down conversions and holding Seattle to just 180 total yards for the game.
The Rams' defense did a number on the much-talked-about Seattle offense, though Donald hasn't exactly been the game-wrecker we all know him to be this season with 5.5 sacks in his nine games. When it comes to game planning against Raheem Morris' defense, No. 99 is where Smith's focus begins.
“Number 99 to start," Smith said. "Where is he at all times? Hall of Fame player, one of the best players ever at his position, and still playing at a high level. Just knowing where he is and then all of their blitz packages. The schematic stuff that they’re great at, they’ve always got some different wrinkles in their defense. Just being able to make adjustments on the sideline or at halftime, and then just going out there and playing our game.”
With both teams going in opposite directions since that Week 1 matchup, the Seahawks need to keep winning as they look to keep pace with the San Francisco 49ers in the division.

With the lessons from the Week 1 debacle, will the Seahawks be able to rectify their mistakes and put out a better performance at SoFi Stadium?
For Smith and the offense, that is the hope.
