Seahawks QB Geno Smith 'Knows' He Has Future in Coaching
The current focus for Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith is not if, but when he'll be signing on the dotted line this offseason.
It's no secret that Smith is probably looking toward the future, as a life-changing contract is coming from the Seahawks or another team. Either way, Smith is getting his money.
But a life after his playing career? Why look that far ahead after Smith just capped off the best season of his career with Comeback Player of the Year honors?
As it turns out, Smith either just had a passing thought or appears capable of juggling both focuses at once, as he made it clear on Tuesday his intentions to eventually become a coach, regardless of the competition.
"I know I can be a successful OC (offensive coordinator) right now.. on any level," Smith tweeted.
While his Pro Bowl-level play was a primary reason for vaulting the Seahawks into a surprising postseason appearance, Smith also took control as a leader and gained immeasurable respect throughout the locker room.
A calming presence who never appears to let emotions get the best of him, Smith has the kind of leadership qualities that are needed to be a coach at any level of the game.
But for now, he's got plenty of on-field career left before any potential departure toward a role on the sidelines.
