Geno Smith, 3 Seahawks Named to 2024 Pro Bowl Games
After having three players initially voted into the Pro Bowl, the Seahawks will send six to Orlando with quarterback Geno Smith, receiver DK Metcalf, and special teamer Nick Bellore added to the roster as alternates.
As announced on the Seahawks official website on Tuesday morning, Smith, Metcalf, and Bellore will replace Buccaneers receiver Mike Evans, Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford, and Lions special teamer Jalen Reeves-Maybin, who all dropped out of the event due to injuries. They will join linebacker Bobby Wagner, safety Julian Love, and rookie cornerback Devon Witherspoon, giving the team their most Pro Bowl selections since having seven in 2020.
With his inclusion to the roster, Smith will join Russell Wilson and Dave Krieg as the third quarterback in franchise history to earn back-to-back Pro Bowl selections. Starting 15 games, he threw for 3,624 yards with 20 touchdowns and only nine interceptions, orchestrating a league-best five game-winning drives and becoming the first player in NFL history to throw seven go-ahead touchdown passes in the fourth quarter in a single season.
On the receiving end of many of Smith's completions, Metcalf led the Seahawks with 1,114 receiving yards and eight touchdown receptions, averaging a career-high 16.9 yards per catch. Effective moving the chains and finishing in the red zone, he turned 52 out of his receptions into first downs and finished tied for second with five touchdowns inside the opposing 10-yard line. This will be the former Ole Miss star's second career Pro Bowl selection.
How Does Seahawks Head Coach Opening Stack Up Against Competition?
As for Bellore, the savvy veteran special teams ace will also add a second Pro Bowl selection to his resume. Still one of the NFL's best flying downfield to make plays in kick and punt coverage, he finished with nine combined tackles while logging a team-high 364 special teams snaps overall.
The 2024 Pro Bowl games will take place at Camping World Stadium in Orlando this week leading up to the Super Bowl with the skills competition televised on Thursday, February 1 from 4 to 5:30 PM PT and a flag football game played on Sunday, February 4 at noon PT. Both events will be televised on ESPN and the flag football game will also air on ABC.
