Seattle Seahawks Coach Pete Carroll Updates QB Geno Smith's Injury
The Seahawks are fresh off a huge 20-17 win over the Eagles on "Monday Night Football" in Week 15, breaking a four-game losing streak and salvaging - for now - their playoff hopes.
Starting quarterback Geno Smith wasn't on the field on Monday. Instead, backup Drew Lock made his first start in a Seahawks uniform and completed 22 of 33 passes with one touchdown in the win.
It was the second game missed by Smith, and coach Pete Carroll updated his status on Tuesday, saying Smith could've played but the team made the right call holding him out one more week.
Carroll said Smith will practice all week and will take the field on Sunday against the Tennessee Titans.
“He might have done great, but at least we bought him another week and now he’s ready to go. He’ll have a full week of prep,” Carroll said, via SeattleSports.com.
In Smith's absence, Lock led the Seahawks on a 10-play, 92-yard drive that ended with a 29-yard touchdown pass to rookie wideout Jaxon Smith-Njigba with just 28 seconds left in the game.
Drew Lock Describes 'Emotional' Feeling vs. Eagles
Smith served as a backup to Russell Wilson during his first three seasons with Seattle before Wilson was traded to the Seahawks from the Broncos in a deal that also brought Lock to town.
Seattle is 7-7 and still in the hunt for a Wild Card spot in the AFC playoffs, and take on the Titans on Sunday at 11 a.m. PT at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee.
