Seahawks’ Geno Smith 'Very Impressed' With WR Jake Bobo; Pair Up vs. Cowboys?
The preseason is a time for players on the roster bubble to showcase their talents in the hope of making the final 53-man roster, and for Seattle Seahawks undrafted rookie free agent Jake Bobo, he's made himself known.
Against the Minnesota Vikings in preseason Game 1 at Lumen Field, Bobo caught three passes for 55 yards and a touchdown in the 24-13 win.
With Geno Smith an onlooker on the sidelines, Bobo's rise from no-name to household name has been nothing short of remarkable.
“I’m very impressed with Jake,” Smith said. “I think back to minicamp, OTAs when he was making plays, no one really knew who he was. Now there’s a little bit of a mantra going, everyone wants to see him make plays. Every day he comes out, he’s consistent, he gets open, he catches the ball.
“Right now, we just got to continue to push him and try and make him better, but he’s doing all the things he needs to do.”
As the Seahawks gear up to face the Dallas Cowboys for Game 2 of their preseason schedule, no doubt Bobo will get another chance to stake his claim for a roster spot.
But will we see Geno?
Preseason games generally don't have too many starters playing, and if they do, it's for a series or two.
For Smith, it doesn't matter if it's "only" preseason, he's ready to roll.
“Yeah, I would like to [play vs. Cowboys]," Smith said. “I would love to play. Any time I get an opportunity to go out there with my guys, it's always a great opportunity. I love the game, I love to play. I’m looking forward to it, I can’t wait to get out there.”
With the regular season inching closer, these preseason games and training camp reps take on a whole new level of importance for players.
Bobo gets another chance to show that his efforts vs. the Vikings weren't a flash in the pan, and perhaps Smith gets a small chance to knock off some of the rust before the Week 1 clash against the Los Angeles Rams.
