Seahawks QB Geno Smith 'Grateful' for Retired Tom Brady, Sets 'GOAT' Record Straight
Even after a season that saw him set multiple franchise passing records while earning his first-career Pro Bowl nod, Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith is remaining humble as he pays respects to legendary quarterback Tom Brady, who officially announced his retirement "for good" on Wednesday.
One Seahawks fan tagged Smith on Twitter saying "From one Goat to another it’s officially your time @GenoSmith3."
But Smith make sure to set the record straight when it comes to the G.O.A.T conversation.
"I’m not the goat but very grateful to be inspired by and compete against someone I have always admired," Smith tweeted. "The ultimate competitor, fiery leader and all time great WINNER! The reason I wore 12 in high school and college."
Despite playing against Brady and the New England Patriots in the AFC East while he was with the New York Jets his first four seasons, Smith's most notable matchup with Brady came in Week 10 of this past season when the Seahawks and Brady's Tampa Bay Bucs faced off in Germany.
An exciting finish saw the Bucs come out with a 21-16 win, but Smith had arguably outplayed one of his idols, going 23 of 33 for 275 yards and two touchdowns.
But for now, Smith is directing the love and attention toward Brady as he rides off into the sunset.
