Will Seahawks' Jamal Adams Be Ready To Play Week 1?
Seattle Seahawks All-Pro safety Jamal Adams participated in just one game last year before a torn quad muscle in Week 1 sidelined him for the remainder of the season. As this upcoming campaign approaches, the injury continues to affect him, resulting in his ongoing placement on the physically unable to perform list. Whether he will be ready to start the regular season remains highly uncertain.
Coach Pete Carroll was asked on Tuesday if Adams has a realistic chance of playing in the season opener, and based on his answer, it doesn't seem likely that the Seahawks will have him on the field for Week 1.
"He's not quite as far along," Carroll said.
Additionally, Carroll revealed that he and the Seahawks organization are taking a cautious approach to Adams' health, as they want the safety to return to the field and be able to stay there.
"Again we got to get them not just where they can kind of get back out there, they have to be able to stay out there. That's why we are taking the time and making sure that hopefully when they return, they can stay returned," Carroll said.
Since his trade from the New York Jets to the Seahawks in 2020, Adams has not maintained his health for a full season, leading to his absence in 25 games over the past three years. This season holds significant importance for Adams; if he can stay healthy and contribute to elevating the Seahawks' defense to an elite level, it would finally justify the steep price Seattle paid for his services.
