Seahawks Draft Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Create 3-Headed Monster at WR

The Seattle Seahawks added another offensive weapon for Geno Smith as Ohio State's Jaxon Smith-Njigba was taken with the No.20 pick.
In this story:

The Seattle Seahawks had two first-round picks in the draft (No. 5 & No. 20), and after taking Illinois cornerback Devon Witherspoon, Seattle went offense and took Ohio State's star receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba.

Despite playing just three games last season for the Buckeyes, Smith-Njigba's 2021 stats show precisely what he can offer going forward for the Seahawks.

He totaled 1,606 receiving yards and nine touchdowns on 95 receptions. That'll work. With his selection, Smith-Njigba links up with 1,000-plus yard receivers in D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett.

Both receivers surpassed that mark last season, but the production dropped off a cliff after the star duo. Tight end Noah Fant was the next in line with just 486 receiving yards.

But add in Smith-Njigba, and the Seahawks now have a true three-headed monster on offense. Metcalf, Lockett, and Smith-Njigba are excellent weapons for Geno Smith to utilize. That isn't to mention rookie running back Kenneth Walker III either, who rushed for 1,050 yards and nine touchdowns.

Defenses struggled to curtail Lockett and Metcalf last season. Now adding Smith-Njigba, who is a menace in the slot, the Seahawks have a host of weapons.

Seattle was the ninth-best offense last season in terms of points per game (23.9). With the addition of Smith-Njigba, that could certainly increase.

Coach Pete Carroll's team was the surprise packet last season after trading away Russell Wilson. But with Smith, the Seahawks made the postseason and have now added two superb pieces in Witherspoon and Smith-Njigba.

With Smith expected to improve and with the three-headed monster of Metcalf, Lockett, and Smith-Njigba, Seattle will scare a lot of opposing defenses next season.
