Seahawks Jaxon Smith-Njigba: Geno Reveals Rookie Scouting Report
New Seattle Seahawks receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba is settling into life as an NFL player. After being taken with the No.20 pick in the NFL Draft, the Seahawks have a wealth of options for Geno Smith to utilize throughout the season.
But before that comes OTA's and training camp for Smith-Njigba to acclimate to his new surroundings. Offensive coordinator Shane Waldron gave an insight into how the former Ohio State Buckeye is adjusting to his style of offense.
"He's done a good job just kind of blending in with the team," Waldron said. "Getting used to the guys, getting used to the building and the environment here. …
“You see a lot of his natural talent really showcased, especially in some of the individual drills and some of the individual work. So, excited to work with him and watch him progress throughout this OTA and into training camp."
Smith-Njiba is coming into an offensive scheme that was ranked ninth in the NFL for points scored per game (23.9) and will be learning off Pro Bowl receivers in D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett.
With Geno Smith coming off an incredible season last year that saw him lead the Seahawks to the postseason off the back of his career-best year, Seattle is again expected to improve as he enters his second year as the full-time starter, with Smith-Njigba a big reason why.
So, what are Smith's initial thoughts on his newest weapon?
"He's so impressive," Smith said. "Very smooth route runner. Natural hands. Also, the game is not too big for him. You can see he's got that self-confidence that you look for. He's learning; he's picking up his assignments like all the other rookies and new guys. Jaxon's been tremendous so far, and I'm looking forward to seeing him grow."
The Seahawks have had a good offseason with their free agent and draft additions, and now comes the time to put it all together as training camp is just around the corner.
But for all the hype that Seattle will bring this season, most eyes will naturally be on Smith-Njigba, who is off to a flying start to life as a Seahawk.
