How Seahawks' Kenneth Walker III Was Used to Construct 'Perfect' RB
The 2022 NFL draft was a home run for the Seattle Seahawks as they added several franchise cornerstones that helped them earn a playoff berth.
Among those was running back Kenneth Walker III who burst onto the scene after being a second-round pick out of Michigan State. Despite only appearing in 15 games, and only starting 11, Walker was one of the best running backs in the NFL as a rookie.
His rookie season was so impressive, that NFL.com analyst and former running back Maurice Jones-Drew listed Walker's speed in his construction of the perfect running back.
Walker showed blazing speed at the NFL Scouting Combine in 2022, running a 4.38-second 40-yard dash. It became clear this wasn't a fluke when the rookie recorded the second-fastest speed as a ball-carrier this season, hitting 22.09 mph during a 74-yard, fourth-quarter sprint to the end zone in Seattle's 37-23 win over the Chargers in Week 7. In fact, he had four rushes in which he reached at least 20 mph this season.
Walker finished second in Offensive Rookie of the Year voting after rushing for 1,050 yards and nine touchdowns, showcasing his speed on several long runs.
It was evident that Walker can be a lead running back for the Seahawks moving forward, and is on the cusp of cementing himself as one of the NFL's best in only his second season.
