Seattle Seahawks RB Kenneth Walker Shines in Comeback Win vs. Philadelphia Eagles
The Seattle Seahawks are back in the win column for the first time in the five games, as the come-from-behind 20-17 win on Monday over the Philadelphia Eagles snapped a four-game losing streak.
On a night where the Seahawks' quarterback situation provided a bit of uncertainty with usual starter Geno Smith being listed as active after missing last week's loss to the San Francisco 49ers, it was instead his backup, Drew Lock, who got the start.
As Lock revealed in his post-game interview with ESPN, the decision to give him the start over Smith didn't occur until they arrived at Lumen Field on Sunday, which naturally meant the Seahawks offensive coordinator would have to implement game plans that best fit each quarterback. That game plan was a balanced attack, with a focus on their running game, specifically Kenneth Walker, to help lighten the load off the shoulders of the younger quarterback.
After being shut out of the end zone in the first half, Walker provided the necessary spark for Seattle in the second, capping off the nine-play opening drive of the third quarter with a 23-yard touchdown run, his longest rush on a score this season.
His seventh touchdown of the season capped off a 112 all-purpose yard performance for Walker, as he rushed for 86 yards on 19 carries while adding another 26 as a receiver.
'Amazing!' Drew Lock Reacts to Big Win vs. Eagles
It was the type of night that had been missing in recent weeks for Walker. In the last five games, he received an average of 11.2 touches for just 56.8 scrimmage yards per game, per the ESPN broadcast. Walker saw an uptick in both categories during the win, touching the ball 21 times while totaling 112 yards and a touchdown.
The Seahawks will look to make it two wins in a row on Sunday as they go on the road to face the Tennessee Titans. Kickoff inside Nissan Stadium is scheduled for 10 a.m. (PT)
