Seahawks RB Kenny McIntosh Turning Sobs of Joy Into Motivation: 'S*** Man!'

Kenny McIntosh cried uncontrollably on his first call with the media after being drafted in the seventh round by the Seattle Seahawks. But it'll likely be no time until those tears transform into motivational fuel.
In this story:

Kenny McIntosh has played under some of the brightest lights that the sport of football has to offer.

A two-time national champion as a versatile running back for the Georgia Bulldogs, McIntosh has played on the biggest stages with a program that is essentially the 33rd team in the NFL.

But despite all this, getting that draft call from the Seattle Seahawks on Saturday caused him to be overcome with emotion. Doubt was setting in, as McIntosh was preparing to potentially sign some undrafted free agent deals before the Seahawks took him with the No. 237th overall pick.

So when McIntosh spoke to the media shortly after being selected, he sobbed as tears of joy were basically seeping through the phone.

“S***, man. I’ve been waiting all day,” McIntosh said. “How do you think it feels?"

McIntosh only spoke to the media via phone call, as his emotion wasn't visible on Zoom like many of the other draftees. But even as he spoke, he struggled to gather himself throughout the call as tears - and expletives - kept pouring out.

But this passion is exactly the kind that fits the mold and culture of the Seahawks. Add this to McIntosh's confidence, and you've got an NFL-ready player both mentally and physically.

"Whatever you want in a running back, I got it," he said.

Based on his collegiate production, it's hard to argue with this. Last season, McIntosh led the Bulldogs in rushing yards (829) and rushing touchdowns (10) while also finishing as the team's third-leading receiver (504 yards).

But McIntosh's combine numbers left more to be desired. As The News Tribune points out, his 4.62 40-yard dash was the third-slowest among running backs, which could've been a reason he fell so far down in the draft.

“I think I did everything I needed to do on the field,” he said. “I know I had a bad 40. They hold that over you for life. ... But I didn’t think I was going to go this low.”

Now, instead of disappointment with how his combine went, McIntosh is motivated with his newfound opportunity.

“I’ve definitely got something to prove," he said. "I’ve been feeling like this since I got to college. Going to Georgia, I had something to prove. This ain’t nothing new."

McIntosh will likely enters the season as the fourth option in Seahawks the backfield. But in the craziness and unpredictability the NFL provides, he's ready for his chance, whenever that might come.

“So let’s just bring it on," McIntosh said. "I'm ready for the challenge. ... They are going to know who Kenny is.”
