Punter Prestige: Seahawks' Michael Dickson Best in NFL?
Punting isn't something the average NFL fan thinks about all that much, but it remains an important part of the game regardless.
Field position is everything in football, and being able to flip it on a dime could be the difference between victory and defeat.
Fortunately for the Seattle Seahawks, they are in good hands in this department. In CBS Sports' ranking of the top 10 punters in the NFL, Seahawks specialist Michael Dickson earned the No. 1 spot once again.
"Michael Dickson is the highest-paid punter in the NFL and there's a reason he's the highest-paid punter in the NFL," CBS Sports writes. "When it comes to punting, there's no one better right now. For the second straight year, Dickson is at the top of our ranking of best punters."
Dickson, 26, has been exceptional for the Seahawks since they drafted him in 2018. In that time, he has punted 362 times averaged 47.6 yards per attempt. He has also pinned 43.1 percent of his punts inside the opposing team's 20, with only eight percent of his attempts resulting in touchbacks. In 2018, the Australian native even became the first rookie punter to reach the Pro Bowl since 1985.
For his great, but under-appreciated play, the Seahawks rewarded Dickson with a four-year deal worth $14.5 million in 2021, making him the highest-paid punter in the league.
"During his five seasons in the league, Dickson has consistently been one of the best punters in the NFL, which is why he's at the top of our list," CBS Sports writes.
The Seahawks have certainly gotten what they paid for in Dickson, and are hopeful he can keep up his strong performance for a while to come.
