Seahawks Draft Elite DL, 'Perfect' WR in Latest NFL Mock
The Seattle Seahawks are set to find themselves in a unique position in the upcoming NFL draft, as they are a playoff team that will pick within the top five.
They own two first-round picks due to the Russell Wilson trade to the Denver Broncos last offseason, and with the Broncos struggling in Wilson's first year they now own the No. 5 overall pick via Denver and their own pick at No. 20.
With Geno Smith showing he can be their franchise quarterback, it makes life that much easier for the Seahawks in the first round. In Pro Football Focus' latest mock draft, the Seahawks add an elite prospect on both sides of the ball to bolster an already talented roster.
Rd. 1 No. 5 - Jalen Carter - DL (Georgia)
"The questions to answer on Jalen Carter are ones NFL teams have better access to address than we do from the outside. Seattle is a good place for players with potential maturity concerns, and Carter may be the most talented player at any position in the draft."
It is hard to deny the talent that Carter brings to the table on the field, with 32 total tackles including seven tackles for loss and three sacks to go with two forced fumbles in his final season at Georgia.
However, there are questions surrounding him off the field as well as questions about his work ethic. If the Seahawks like him, though, landing arguably the best player in the draft at No. 5 is not a bad haul for a defense that allowed 23.6 points per game on 361.7 yards of total offense last season.
As for their No. 20 overall pick in this mock draft, the Seahawks go a route they've been linked to several times.
Rd. 1 No. 20 - Jordan Addison - WR (USC)
"Despite his best efforts to undermine this view with his measurables and pre-draft testing, Jordan Addison is still my No. 1 wide receiver. He is undersized and didn’t set blazing times in the 40, but he’s an elite route runner who knows how to win at all levels and from all alignments. He’s a perfect receiver for the Seahawks."
Seattle was not lacking for offensive production last season, averaging 23.9 points per game on 351.5 yards of total offense - especially with the duo of DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett combining for 2,081 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns on 174 receptions.
By adding Addison to that duo, as well as Smith and running back Kenneth Walker III, the Seahawks would make their offense that much stronger.
After winning the Biletnikoff Award as a sophomore at Pitt with 1,593 receiving yards and 17 touchdowns on 100 receptions, he transferred to USC and put together another impressive season - hauling in 59 receptions for 875 receiving yards and eight touchdowns.
There are several potential directions the Seahawks can go when they're on the clock with their two first-round picks, but whichever route they take they will have the opportunity to add two more franchise cornerstones.
