Seahawks 'Not Getting Enough Credit!' NFL's Most Overlooked Team?
During the time of the offseason after the draft and free agency have come and gone, it's easier to get a better idea of how teams are shaping up next season. The Seattle Seahawks secured some solid defensive free agents and added talent via the draft on both sides of the ball.
But despite all of that, some still aren't sold on what Seattle can do next season. NFL analyst and former Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Emmanuel Acho is not one of them, as he listed the Seahawks as one of the most overlooked teams this offseason.
"I think the team not getting enough credit is the Seattle Seahawks," Acho said on FS1. "Last year they made it to the playoffs, they got bounced real quick by the 49ers. This year, Geno Smith, I think he will build on [his] success from last season. You add Jaxon Smith-Njigba, he's your third-best receiver as a first-round pick. I think he will elevate Tyler Lockett [and] D.K. Metcalf.
The Seahawks added Smith-Njigba and Zach Charbonnet to an offense that was averaging 23.9 points per game (ranked ninth) and then brought in Bobby Wagner, Devin Bush, and Dre'Mont Jones along with rookie Devon Witherspoon and having Jamal Adams hopefully returning on defense, too.
But the reasons didn't end there.
"Kenneth Walker finished second in the Rookie of the Year offensively, I think he will be better," Acho said. "Your two tackles last year were rookies, they will be better. Tariq Woolen at cornerback, then you draft a cornerback in the first round to start opposite Woolen, he will be better. I'm not even talking about Jamal Adams, but Quandre Adams will be there regardless. I think the Seahawks aren't getting enough credit."
Fellow NFL analyst Louis Riddick thinks Seattle can challenge the San Francisco 49ers for the NFC West next season, so there are some who are bullish on coach Pete Carroll's team.
With much of the focus in the NFC on the Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys, and the 49ers, the Seahawks are moving about quietly in the background and have enough weapons to catch the entire league by surprise ... again.
