Seahawks O-Line Set to Surprise in 2023? 'Best in a Decade'
Led by quarterback Geno Smith, the Seattle Seahawks offense was a surprise last season behind impressive performances from rookie offensive tackles Charles Cross and Abraham Lucas. However, the offensive line again left more to be desired, though that could be about to change.
With another offseason coupled with some nice additions via the draft, Smith's protectors could be one of the better units in the NFL ... and former Seahawks receiver Michael Bumpas agrees.
Speaking on Bump and Stacy on Seattle Sports, Bumpus boldly claimed that this offensive line could be the best in the last decade.
"I'm looking at just the potential of this group," Bumpus said. "Two second-year tackles, a fourth-year guard (Damien Lewis), and you have the opportunity to have a rookie center. ... If you hit with this center and that guard (Bradford), I think this could be the best offensive line, eventually – maybe after a year or two – that we've seen since those days of Marshawn Lynch rushing for 1,200, 1,300, 1,400 yards. So this is big."
The potential is there. Then when factoring in the running backs behind the offensive line in Kenneth Walker III and rookie Zach Charbonnet, things can get really exciting.
The offensive line ranked 10th in sacks given up last season (46), so offensive coordinator Shane Waldron will be looking for improvement. And if both running backs play to their full potential, it could make for interesting viewing.
Could we be treated to some great offensive line play and a running back duo this upcoming season? Quite possibly, as this Seahawks o-line with Geno Smith at the helm could be one of the better ones the franchise has had in a long time, at least if you asked Bumpus.
