Seahawks RB Battle? Zach Charbonnet & Ken Walker Ready 'To Push Each Other'
The Seattle Seahawks have two quality running backs in Kenneth Walker III and the newly-drafted Zach Charbonnet out of UCLA.
With both Walker III and Charbonnet, Seattle possesses quite the tandem. And despite coach Pete Carroll stating the duo with be "battling," for rookie Charbonnet, he seems just focused on getting better every day, not the potential fight for the starting position.
But Charbonnet did admit he's "excited" to be able "to push each other," which is the kind of talk generally heard when two guys are battling for a starting role. Is that the case here? It's clearly too early to tell.
“Honestly, I haven’t thought too much about it I’m just going day by day,” Charbonnet said. “Every day I’m just coming in and putting in the work. He’s a great guy [Walker], and I’m excited to be able to play with him and to be able to push each other."
Given that Charbonnet has just undertaken his first reps as a Seahawk at rookie minicamp, it is only natural to worry about where your feet are instead of looking too far down the line.
Sometimes it can be a little daunting coming from college to the NFL, but for Charbonnet, he detailed that being able to focus on football entirely has helped him settle into his new surroundings rather quickly.
“At the end of the day, just realizing we’re playing football,” Charbonnet said on what has made the transition easy. “We’ve been doing this our whole life. There’s no more school anymore, so I can put all my energy into football, and that just made it easier.”
With Charbonnet being a beacon of production in his last two seasons at UCLA (2,496 rushing yards & 27 touchdowns), the thought of pairing him with Walker III, who himself had a promising rookie campaign, is a tantalizing prospect for Seattle.
But...
For all the "battle" talk, Charbonnet is content to keep his head down and work with his new team. After all, having a good running-back tandem is something most NFL teams are after, and Seattle has one in Walker III and Charbonnet.
