Snoop Dogg Reveals Call with Pete Carroll After Seahawks Firing: 'What's Up Coach?'

World-renowned rapper Snoop Dogg knows where he wants to see his close friend, former Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll, coach next.
In this story:

Even though it's been more than two weeks since the Seattle Seahawks parted ways with head coach Pete Carroll, but it's still weird to think that he won't be on the sidelines after 14 years.

Carroll was the NFL's oldest coach at 72, and while one may assume that he would be done coaching, that may not be the case. Not only did Carroll not seem entirely satisfied with his exit from Seattle, but he reportedly made a "late push" for the Los Angeles Chargers' coaching job. That obviously didn't pan out as the Chargers instead hired Carroll's old rival in Jim Harbaugh, but if it's true that he did have interest, it's a strong indication that he wants to coach again soon.

As for where he could end up, that remains a mystery. To world-famous rapper Snoop Dogg, clearly the authority on football coaching destinations, going back to the college ranks to coach the USC Trojans once more would be a dream scenario.

“You know what’s crazy? When he got pushed away, I’m the first person that called him," Snoop Dogg said Friday on The Pat McAfee Show. "I FaceTimed him. I was like, ‘What’s up Coach?’ And he was like, ‘Man I really want that gig over there. I wonder if they’re gonna call over there. So, he still had the bug. You know what I’m saying? Somebody gonna call me to come do what I do, because I’m not done doing what I’m doing.

“So, what I would like to see Pete do, is go back to SC and restore order."

Before coming to Seattle, Carroll coached USC from 2001 to 2009. Carroll's Trojans were arguably the best team in college football during that decade, as under his watch, they went 97-19 with seven Pac-12 championships and two claimed national titles (one of which has since been vacated). USC hasn't come close to that same success since then, winning just one Pac-12 championship and not even playing for the national title.

It makes sense that Snoop Dogg, a Long Beach native and diehard USC fan, would want to see Carroll return and rejuvenate the program.

However, there is the very significant problem that current coach Lincoln Riley isn't going anywhere any time soon. The Trojans may be coming off a disappointing 8-5 season, but with Riley only two years into a 10-year deal worth $110 million, it'll be a while before there's even a chance of a coaching change.

There's also the fact that Carroll's tenure at USC ended with a major scandal that resulted in the vacation of the 2004 national championship, which would surely come up in the hiring process.

While it would be fun to see Carroll return to the program that he ruled college football with, Snoop Dogg's wish seems like little more than a pipe dream right now.
