Seattle Seahawks Praise Geno Smith After Clutch Play vs. Commanders: ‘Glad We Got Geno!’
The Seattle Seahawks bounced back from their beatdown at the hands of the Baltimore Ravens with a 29-26 win over the Washington Commanders at Lumen Field on Sunday.
Quarterback Geno Smith put his turnover issues behind him (for now) to lead a game-winning drive that set up Jason Meyers for the 43-yard field goal.
Head coach Pete Carroll loved how his team finished the game against a plucky Commanders outfit.
“This was a really impressive finish for us in this game,” Carroll said. “The basics of what happened was we didn’t turn the ball over one time, and we had plus one for the day. It was a tough game the whole time. These guys have kind of been on a roll, feeling good about themselves, and for good reason. So, for us to finish like we did, I thought it was really impressive to see our offense score the last three times we had the ball. Geno did a fantastic job of leading us down the field.”
Lead them, he did.
After Sam Howell connected with Dyami Brown for a touchdown that tied the game with 52 second left, it was all on Smith and the offense to get into field goal range.
Smith would lead an eight-play, 50-yard drive that started as the Seahawks' 25-yard line and took just 52 seconds to get into field goal range, where Meyers did his thing.
For running back Kenneth Walker, he says that the offense has complete faith in Smith in those clutch situations.
“We got a lot of faith in him,” Walker said. “He’s a great leader, and we trust in him. I see it day in, day out. In those situations, I’m glad we got Geno.”
With the win, Seattle moves to 6-3 on the season as attention now turns to the Los Angeles Rams next week.
But for now, the Seahawks can bask in a job well done and another Smith game-winning drive.
